Part-time post available at Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service Library

Are you looking for a part-time post as a research librarian? Do you enjoy digging out obscure facts and learning random new things every day? Would you like to work in the justice sector, and frequently be able to see the impact of your work out in the world? If yes, then come work with us!

One of our current amazing Research Librarians is moving to part-time working, and as a result the other half of their post is now up for grabs

Job details: https://recruitment.scotcourts.gov.uk/JobDetails.aspx?p=g9KziRAy6/g=

Although currently a 12 month position to allow us to trial the impact on the service, it’s possible it may become a permanent post at the end of that period.

The hours are negotiable, from 0.4FTE to 0.5FTE, and we’re flexible about the days.

Salary is currently £26,331 – £32,373 pro rata (which is due to be updated when the 2023/24 pay settlement is agreed).

Closing date is 23rd October.

We’re a small but very collaborative team, and are looking forward to adding another awesome bod to the group.

As we’re civil service a competency based application system is used. If you’ve not come across these before, please look at the supporting information on the Recruitment page: (https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/about-the-scottish-court-service/recruitment). It’s super helpful (even giving good/bad application examples) and this is one of the main areas where otherwise excellent applicants trip up.

Also, contact details for the recruiting manager and members of the panel are in the Further Information document, and they’re very happy to chat informally about the role.

Corridor - rare books
The Advocates Library

The Faculty of Advocates is one of Scotland’s most ancient and prestigious organisations. The professional body for the Scottish bar, the Faculty of Advocates is a membership organisation with the Advocates Library at its heart. Established formally in 1689, the Library blends tradition with its modern role as a busy working law library, providing a library and information service to members of the Faculty and acting as Scotland’s national law library. The Faculty also has responsibility for maintaining a formal relationship with the Abbotsford Trust- located at Sir Walter Scott’s former home.

Due to the imminent retirement of the present Senior Librarian, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Librarian to fill this post. The post holder will be responsible for managing the Advocates Library, leading a professional team of 14 to deliver the best possible service to members of Faculty and the general public via the National Library of Scotland. Additionally, the post holder supports the links with the Abbotsford Trust, caring for the library and other collections hosted at Sir Walter Scott’s former home.

A key member of the Faculty management group, the Senior Librarian reports to the CEO and also works closely with the Keeper of the Library to develop the strategic direction of the library and implement library policies. The post holder will therefore have an in depth knowledge of modern library practice and be able to build effective working relationships, manage and develop staff and have a proven track record in delivering excellent service.
